Port Saint Lucie, FL – May 6 , 2024,  As Haiti faces a devastating humanitarian crisis, CARHA (Christian Action & Relief for HAiti) issues an urgent call to action for organizations and individuals worldwide to come together and support relief efforts.

Even though CARHA is based in the north, and doesn't call the capital of Port-au-Prince home, targeted attacks on key infrastructure, including airport and prisons, have overwhelmed government forces and impacted the entire country socioeconomically –leaving the people of Haiti to fend for themselves with insecurity in full swing.

CARHA, a leading humanitarian organization dedicated to aiding communities in Haiti, is deeply concerned about the unfolding political instability and economic challenges that have compounded the suffering of millions of Haitians, leaving them in urgent need of assistance.

We can report that inside our walls, we are safe and doing what we always do: provide a sense of normalcy and fellowship for our 36 future leaders and staff. There have been ongoing school shutdowns in our area because of financial strains across the country but, by God’s grace, our schools haven’t been affected.

In response to this situation, CARHA urges organizations and individuals to contribute to relief efforts in Haiti in the following ways:

We don’t need anymore discussions but action to stop the flow of guns and restore actual democratic order.

CARHA is committed to supporting relief efforts in Haiti and invites partners, donors, and volunteers to join us in making a difference. Together, we can provide hope and assistance to the people of Haiti during this challenging time.

Dear CARHA family,

You may have heard that in recent days, heavily-armed gangs have shut down Haiti’s capital of Port-au-Prince. Even though CARHA is based in the north, and doesn't call the capital home, targeted attacks on key infrastructure, including airport and prisons, have overwhelmed government forces and impacted the entire country socioeconomically –leaving the people of Haiti to fend for themselves with insecurity in full swing.

We can report that inside our walls, we are safe and doing what we always do: provide a sense of normalcy and fellowship for our 36 future leaders and staff. There have been ongoing school shutdowns in our area because of financial strains across the country but, by God’s grace, our schools haven’t been affected. We will continue to share updates as they come to us and have attached additional documents that detail the current crisis in Haiti.

While safety isn’t an immediate concern for communities outside of the capital, this latest unrest has amplified our concerns and needs for planning and support.

Fuel reserves, which power our electricity and generators, are running low and with drastic price inflation it's even harder to come by. Inflated prices have also affected the cost of food, hygiene products. Because it is so dangerous to travel through Port-au-Prince, transportation has been re-routed through safer routes up north, which are more costly and harsher on vehicles.

Our board has come together to secure a container and send it down to Haiti full of food and essential supplies that our CARHA campuses and neighboring communities are desperate for.

Container & Supply Drive for CARHA

Our fundraising goal is to raise $30,000 to cover the costs associated with procuring the container, transporting it from the United States to Haiti, clearing customs, and transporting it from Cap Haitien airport to the CARHA campus. The breakdown of expenses is as follows:

$5,000 - container, transportation/shipping costs from the US to Haiti
$5,000 - Haitian customs Clearance
$2,000 - transportation from Cap Haitien to CARHA Campus
$18,000 - food/essential supplies to fill container + remaining cash to purchase fuel in-county

We are also collecting essential items such as food, water, medical supplies, hygiene kits, school supplies and essential materials through registries on Amazon. Any purchase made through these sites will be shipped directly to our container at Missionary Flights International.
